Biomass to Energy

Our scaled-down clean-tech energy plants running on Bamboo and Vetiver Grass are useful tools in developing a network of off-grid power supply in rural areas. Both materials are grown on non-food producing land, require limited water and the root systems target soil structure rehabilitation, toxin removal, boosting water retention characteristic, and the deposition of high levels of sub-soil carbon.

Ravfin works closely with partners in the global community of Bamboo, Vetiver Grass and Algae production.

Vetiver Grass thrives in areas in which Bamboo will not. The use of the two materials allows us to maximize the biomass production footprint. Both materials grow on marginal soils and do not compete with food production. They also produce consistently high yields and are perennial plants, not requiring replanting for decades.

The universal supply, material characteristics, and logistic constraints are addressed through the system of growing close to the point of processing into energy and other downstream products.

Ravfin designs the plantations to produce surplus Bamboo and Vetiver Grass and the excess is used in multiple downstream beneficiation activities to support the local economies and mega job creation.

Specific algae are utilised to extract an energy feedstock. Security of supply is assured through a closed-loop industrialised process. The energy feedstock has multiple commercial and industrial applications, apart from its application in the energy sector.

Desalination of Seawater

Thermal desalination using waste heat is a standard process in the desalination sector.

The post desalination pumping of water to the end-user is one of the main cost elements in the entire chain. By aggregating energy generation, water desalination, and extraction of valuable minerals from the brine, Ravfin mitigates this cost can bring energy, water, and products to the market at a lower general cost.

Ravfin has designed a system that allows for the cost-effective transfer of water over extreme distances and up vertical inclines. Once the water is delivered to the central plateau it can be commercialised further in a logistics setting.

This capability will drive the rapid establishment of logistics corridors, agriculture, and human development in Africa, and will have a major impact on health status and wealth creation in developing countries.
